Pakistan have finally opened their account in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 with a comfortable victory over the Netherlands at Optus Stadium in Perth on Sunday.

Batting first, the Dutch side never really got any momentum as Pakistan bowlers bowled in tight lines and kept taking wickets at regular intervals to maintain the pressure. The Scott Edwards-led team eventually reached 91/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

Shadab Khan was the pick of the bowler for Pakistan, taking a brilliant three-wicket haul while conceding only 22 runs in his quota of 4 overs. Apart from Shadab, Mohammad Wasim Jr took a couple of scalps for 15 in three overs. Colin Ackermann with 27 and skipper Edwards with 15 were the only double digit scorers for the Netherlands.

In response, Pakistan would’ve anticipated a calk walk kind of a chase, but the Netherlands bowlers didn’t allow the Men in Green to have complete domination. Babar Azam & Co. lost four wickets before gunning down the paltry target in 13.5 overs.

Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan was the top scorer for his side with 49 from 39 deliveries. Brandon Glover picked up two wickets for the Netherlands in 2.5 overs.

“I have bowled against few of their players in county cricket, so I know how they play. All our bowlers bowled well. The fast bowlers put pressure in the powerplay, and I took wickets because of that pressure built. We didn’t finish the game well in the last couple of matches, but we managed to do it today,” said ‘Player of the Match’ Shadab in the post-game presentation.
