Team India defeated South Africa in the second One-Day International (ODI) to level the ongoing three-match series at JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Sunday.

Chasing the target of 279, the hosts were in a spot of bother, losing both their openers for just 48 in 8.5 overs. Before the visitors could capitalize further, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer steadied the innings and took the game away from the rainbow nation.

The pair went on to form a dominating partnership of 161 runs for the third wicket to guide India to a memorable victory. Kishan fell only seven runs short of what could be his maiden ODI century, while Iyer remained unbeaten at 113 off 111 deliveries with the help of 15 boundaries as the home team won the contest by seven wickets.

Earlier, half-centuries from Aiden Markram (79) and Reeza Hendricks (74) propelled South Africa to a competitive score. The duo formed a crucial partnership of 129 runs for the third wicket to put the visitors on the right track of posting a massive total.

Though, the Indian bowling unit led by Mohammed Siraj came back and put the brakes in the death overs, restricting South Africa to 278/7. Siraj picked up three wickets for 38 in his quota of 10 overs, including a maiden.
