Sunil Gavaskar celebrated like a child after Ravichandran Ashwin hit the winning runs for India in a tense-finish against Pakistan in their opening match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday, October 23.

In a video going viral on the internet, Gavaskar can be seen jumping on his feet besides Irfan Pathan and Krishnamachari Srikkanth.

The last over of the match had all the drama worthy of a World Cup final: wickets tumbling, wides, a no ball, a six, a free hit, and of course, all the spectators on their feet.

‘Chase Master’ Virat Kohli yet again turned out to be the star of the India versus Pakistan World Cup game. His fearless and unbeaten 82 powered the Men in Blue to a 4-wicket victory over the 2009 champions.

Former Indian captain Kohli was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his batting heroics at the MCG.

“Standing here I just feel like it was meant to be. Till today Mohali was my best innings against Australia. Today I will count this one higher. Hardik kept pushing me. The crowd has been phenomenal. You guys (fans) kept backing me and I am grateful for your support,” Kohli said in the post-match presentation.

India will next take on the Netherlands in their second game of Super 12 stage on Thursday (October 27) at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
