India produced an all-round performance to beat Australia by 6 runs in their first warm-up game at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 on Monday.

Brilliant fifties by KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav powered India to 186/7 in 20 overs. While India lost the wickets of captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli inside nine overs, there was a great show of intent by Rahul (57 off 33) and Suryakumar (50 off 33).

For Australia, fast pacer Kane Richardson (4/30) was the pick of the bowlers.

Chasing a competitive total, Aussie skipper Aaron Finch played a sensational knock (76 off 54) and added a 41-run stand with Mitchell March (35 off 18) in 5.4 overs. However, India made a comeback by picking six wickets in the last two overs.

Though Kohli failed with the bat, he was outstanding in the field. The former India captain not only affected a brilliant one-handed diving runout but also took a screamer in the final over near the deep long-on boundary.

The important part about the catch was that Kohli maintained his balance after holding on to the ball. Shocked by Kohli’s brilliance, Pat Cummins made a long walk back to the pavilion on 7 (6).

Cummins’ dismissal was followed by three more wickets as Mohammed Shami ran Ashton Agar out and cleaned up Josh Inglis and Richardson on the last two balls to seal a match for India.
