Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are making swift activities regarding the retention and release of players ahead of the IPL 2023 auction. The franchise has decided to keep Ravindra Jadeja in their squad for the next season.
Jadeja was miffed with the team owners after he was unceremoniously removed from captaincy in the middle of IPL 2022. Consequently, he parted ways with the squad in Mumbai after being diagnosed with a rib injury. He later deleted all the posts related to CSK from his social media accounts, sparking speculations of him leaving the outfit.
According to a report in The Times of India, after six months of speculations about him joining some other team in the trade window or during the action, Jadeja will stay back. CSK was getting multiple offers for the transfer of Jadeja, the biggest being that from Delhi Capitals (DC), who offered their two all-rounders – Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur – in exchange.
But CSK captain MS Dhoni has made it clear to the team management that they cannot lose Jadeja at any cost. After Dhoni’s demand, Jadeja is set to be held back and will be one of the retained players ahead of the min-auction this year. Not to forget, Jadeja has been a crucial member of the Super Kings since 2012 and won two titles with them.
Talking of Dhoni, the veteran stumper will lead CSK in IPL 2023. The 10-team league will go back to home and away format, meaning the Yellow Army will play their home matches at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has informed all franchises about the last date of transfer window, i.e. November 15. It is also learnt that the salary cap has been increased from INR 90 crore to INR 95 crore for the upcoming auction. However, the franchises can bid for players with the balance amount left after what they spent during the last mega auction and with the amount they get after releasing the players.
