On the fourth day of the second Test against India, Bangladesh spinners – Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz – took three wickets in the first hour, leaving the tourists in a difficult position at 74/7. But Ravichandran Ashwin (42 not out) and Shreyas Iyer (29 not out) worked together to take their side over the finish line. They hit several boundaries in a successful 71-run partnership for the eighth wicket, leading India to victory with a 2-0 series sweep by chasing a target of 145.

With India’s victory, Mehidy’s five-wicket haul went in vain. However, he had a strong outing in both the ODI and Test series against the mighty Indian team. Mehidy Hasan was even named ‘Player of the Series’ in the ODI leg for his all-around performance, and his bowling almost led to India’s defeat in the second Test.

After the conclusion of the Test series, Mehidy Hasan received a signed jersey from Indian superstar Virat Kohli. Mehidy posted about it on his Twitter handle with a caption stating, “Special souvenir from one of the greatest cricketer Virat Kohli.”

Mehidy Hasan sent back Kohli (1) in the second innings on the evening of day 2. Kohli didn’t get the desired outing in the red-ball series and failed to score big. He scored a century in the third and final ODI as India registered a record victory.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh skipper Shakib acknowledged that both teams played good cricket and entertained the fans. The ace all-rounder also lauded Iyer and Ashwin for handling the pressure well in the fourth innings of the game.

During the post-match presentation, Shakib said: “We always know we have a chance in Mirpur. We’ve been playing really well at this venue. Very good Test cricket, that’s what the crowd loves. Credit should go to Shreyas and Ashwin, they absorbed the pressure. We couldn’t bowl in partnerships at that point of time.”

He added: “We needed maybe one more wicket and they had two other tail-enders. Lots of ifs and buts but I’m happy with the way we fought. The attitude of the boys has been impressive. We hope to improve and hopefully next year will give us better results.”
