In the 17th match of the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) between Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat, the Heat won the toss and opted to bat first. The Jimmy Peirson-led side scored 121 for the loss of 6 wickets in their full quota of 20 overs.
In reply, the Thunder chased down the set target in just 11.4 overs, achieving a score of 124 without losing any wickets. This resulted in a win for Chris Green’s team by 10 wickets.
Matthew Gilkes, who smashed 56 off 34 balls, including 6 fours and 3 sixes was adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’. His opening partner, Alex Hales, also contributed to the Thunder’s win with a score of 59 runs off 36 balls, including 10 fours. This victory was the Thunder’s second of the season and it ended their streak of three consecutive defeats.
The Thunder and the Heat will next square off in their reverse fixture at the Carrara Oval, Queensland on Thursday (December 29).
