The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Tuesday, announced their men’s updated squad for the upcoming second Test and final Test against Bangladesh.

Regular captain Rohit Sharma and fast bowler Navdeep Saini, who were part of the initial squad, have been ruled out due to their respective injuries. Rohit suffered an injury in his left thumb during the second ODI of the three-match leg in Dhaka.

“Rohit Sharma is under the care of the BCCI Medical Team following his left thumb injury, which he sustained during the 2nd ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka. The Medical Team is of the opinion that the injury needs some more time to heal completely before the Indian captain can bat and field with full intensity. He will continue his rehab and will not be available for the second and final Test against Bangladesh,” BCCI said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Saini will miss the last game of the tour after sustaining an abdominal muscle strain. The right-arm pacer will soon report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for further management of his injury.

Stand-in-skipper KL Rahul now has two fast bowling options, Shardul Thakur and Jaydev Unadkat, to choose from in case his team needs a third seamer in the second Test, scheduled to be played at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka from December 22 onwards.

India’s revised squad for the second Test against Bangladesh:

KL Rahul (c), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara (vc), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (wk), KS Bharat (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Akshar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Saurabh Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat.
