The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Monday, announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming Under-19 Women’s World Cup, scheduled to take place in South Africa from 14 to January 29 2023.
“The All-India Women’s Selection Committee has picked India U19 Women’s squad for the upcoming bilateral away T20 series against South Africa U19 and the ICC U19 Women’s World Cup,” the BCCI said in a statement.
Batting sensation Shafali Verma will lead India at the inaugural edition of the Under-19 Women’s World Cup. She will be one of two senior India players at the event, with wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh being the other one.
Notably, the first-ever U-19 event will see as many as 16 teams participating, where India are placed in Group D alongside South Africa, UAE and Scotland. The top three teams from each group will progress to the Super Six round, where teams will be divided into two groups of six sides.
Thereafter, the top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals, which will be played on January 27 at JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom. Similarly, the summit clash will be played at the same venue on January 29.
