Days after appointing Adam Zampa as captain for the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL), Melbourne Stars have also named a replacement for their stalwart Glenn Maxwell. In a media release on Sunday, the Stars have announced the inclusion of bowling all-rounder Tom Rogers to replace Maxi.

Notably, Maxwell had fractured his leg during a birthday party and underwent surgery on November 13. He was ruled out of the ODI series against England and could well miss the entire season of BBL|12.

Rogers, who made his debut in the BBL for Sydney Thunder in 2017, represented Stars in the last season and will again link up with the club for the forthcoming edition. On getting another opportunity to play for Stars, the Tasmanian, in a statement released by the club, said: “I’m thrilled to get another opportunity at this level, and it’s great to be a part of the Stars again this season.”

General Manager Blair Crouch was also enthralled to see Rogers back on the side. The Adam Zampa-led Stars will start their campaign with the tournament opener against Thunder on December 13 at Manuka Oval in Canberra.

“It’s great to have Tom back at the Stars, and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can do if he gets an opportunity. We’re looking forward to a great start to the tournament in Canberra and then a huge night at the MCG on December 16,” said Crouch.
