Star Australian batter Steve Smith seems to be on a statement-making run in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2022-23 as he has smashed two back-to-back centuries for the Sydney Sixers. Smith slammed a century for the Sixers in their last game against the Adelaide Strikers and replicated the same in the high-voltage match against their local rivals, Sydney Thunder, at SCG.

Smith smashed 125 off 66 deliveries, including five fours and nine stylish sixes. While Smith grabbed attention with his free-flowing boundary-hitting display, one of his shots became the talk of the town as it ended up hitting Sixers captain Moises Henriques, who was standing on the non-striker’s end.

It all happened during the 18th over of the Sixers’ innings when Smith was batting on 112. Thunder pacer Daniel Sams came over the wicket and bowled a short delivery angling outside the off stump. Smith slapped it straight, but the white leather hit Henriques on his ‘nasty area’, called by the commentators on air.

The replays showed that the ball was hit hard by the New South Wales batter and would have hurt Henriques, who was looking in pain for a few seconds.

Here is the video:

Smith’s scintillating century helped Sixers to post a massive total of 187, which proved to be enough as the Thunder were bowled out for a paltry 62, with David Warner being the top-scorer (16). With this victory, Sixers are now inching closer to Perth Scorchers‘ as they continue to stay in second position with 9 wins to their name. The points difference between both sides is just one.
