In the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2022-23, Prithvi Shaw, who is representing the Mumbai team, smashed a brilliant double century during an Elite Group B match against Assam at the Amingaon Cricket Ground in Guwahati on Tuesday.

Shaw brought up his maiden double century in the ongoing Ranji Trophy and took only 235 balls to complete it. During this, the right-handed batter smacked 28 fours and a six. Shaw played a flamboyant inning and got Mumbai off to a flying start by forming a dominating 123-run opening partnership with Musheer Khan, who scored 42 before Mukhtar Hussain dismissed him.

Shaw then added 74 runs for the first wicket with Arman Jaffer (27), and upon the latter’s run-out, the Mumbaikar built an unbeaten stand of 200 runs with skipper Ajinkya Rahane. At stumps, Mumbai reached 397/2, with Shaw being undefeated on 240 with the help of 34 boundaries, while Rahane was not out on 73, including five fours.

So far in the prestigious competition, Mumbai have registered two victories out of 4 matches with 16 points. They are positioned at the second spot in the Elite Group B points table behind Saurashtra.

Speaking about Shaw, he was a part of India A squad in September, which faced New Zealand, but was not picked in any series on a domestic or foreign tour. The 23-year-old played his last match for India in July 2021, when the Men in Blue toured Sri Lanka. Since then, Shaw has been out but working hard to attract the selectors’ attention.
