Pretoria Capitals (PC) faced Joburg Super Kings (JSK) in match no. 13 of the inaugural SA20 league at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Wednesday (January 18).
Despite making a good start, the Super Kings were bundled out for a below-par score of 122 in just 15.4 overs after asked to bat first. Meanwhile, James Neesham and Anrich Nortje shined with the ball for the Capitals and scalped three wickets each.
Neesham picked up the wicket of dangerous-looking JSK skipper Faf du Plessis, who scored 51 in 22 balls. The PC all-rounder also pulled off a stunner while fielding when he caught a flying catch at the backward point to dismiss Alzarri Joseph.
On the fourth ball of the 12th over, Nortje bowled a fuller delivery to Joseph, which the West Indian tried to slice over the 30-yard circle but couldn’t surpass Neesham. All the Capitals’ players were seen celebrating the 32-year-old’s magical catch, and the spectators in the stands also applauded the effort.

In reply to the Super Kings’ total, with the help of Philip Salt‘s 52 and Will Jacks‘ 34 runs, the Capitals’ chased down the set target quite comfortably in 13 overs for the loss of four wickets. Mandre Burger, Joseph and Lewis Gregory were the only bowlers for JSK to bag a wicket.
For his exceptional bowling performance, Neesham was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’. He bowled three overs and gave away just seven runs at an economy of 2.30.
It was the third loss for Du Plessis’ JSK in SA20 2023, and they currently sit at the last position in the points table. On the other hand, PC have moved up to the top spot in the tally.
In the previous fixture between the two sides on Tuesday (January 17), JSK had beaten PC by 6 runs.
