Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) defeated MI Cape Town (MICT) by four wickets in SA20 2023 contest on Monday (April 15) to register their first victory in the tournament.

After winning the toss at St George’s Park in Gqeberha, SEC captain Aiden Markram elected to bowl first. In the first innings, George Linde was the standout performer, scoring 63 not out off 28 balls, with 4 fours and 5 sixes. Despite his efforts, MICT could only manage 158-8 in 20 overs, with Ottniel Baartman being the pick of the bowlers for the Sunrisers, taking three wickets for 45 runs.

In response, SEC recovered well after making a shaky start, thanks to their skipper Markram’s half-century off 35 balls and Tristan Stubbs, who scored 30 off 18, with 2 fours and 1 six. Despite losing a few quick wickets in the middle, the Sunrisers were able to chase down the 159-run target in 19.3 overs and won the match by four wickets.

Markram was named ‘Player of the match’ for his all-round performance, scoring 50 runs and taking two wickets. His performance played a vital role in securing a victory for the home team.
