The MI Cape Town (MICT) and Joburg Super Kings (JSK) faced each other in Match No. 7 of SA20 at the Newlands in Cape Town on Saturday (January 14).
MI Cape Town won the toss and opted to field first and it proved to be the right decision as they restricted Super Kings to a below-par score of 105/9. Leus du Plooy 21 (26) was the highest contributor for JSG. Meanwhile, leg-spinner Rashid Khan and fast bowler Kagiso Rabada took two wickets each for MICT.
In the second innings, the Faf du Plessis-led side failed to defend the set target and lost the game by 7 wickets. Dewald Brevis 42 (34) shined for MICT and helped his team finish the run chase inside 17 overs.
During his match-winning knock, Brevis hit a huge no-look six, which became the talking point on social media. The 19-year-old opener, on the first ball of the eighth over, smashed left-arm spinner Aaron Phangiso for a six with his lightning-fast bat flow.
Brevis is currently the highest run scorer in SA20, with 112 runs to his name in 3 matches.

Rabada, for his exceptional bowling performance, was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’. He gave away just 12 runs in his quota of 4 overs.
This was consecutive defeat for JSK in last three games. Speaking about the JSG’s back to back losses, Du Plessis said: “T20 cricket is like a lottery, you can ride the momentum at times, two bad days, we will have to go back to Joburg and start over again. It could be a matter of confidence (on the struggling batting unit), you have 3 games from 4 days and it could be enough time to go back and work out (during the upcoming break).”
In the points tally, MICT are currently placed on the top while JSG are at the last position.
