The U-19 Indian Women’s team, under the leadership of Shafali Verma, registered a historic win at the recently-concluded U19 Women’s T20 World Cup final. The Women in Blue completely dominated the contest right from the word go to claim a memorable seven-wicket triumph at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on Sunday.
The decision to bowl first in the summit clash did wonders for India as they sent shockwaves to the English camp by bundling out the Grace Scrivens-led side for just 68 in 17.1 overs. The likes of Titas Sadhu (2/6), Archana Devi (2/17) and Parshavi Chopra (2/13) all bagged two wickets each during India’s outstanding bowling display.
In response, India completed the paltry chase with six overs to spare. The batting pair of Soumya Tiwari and Gongadi Trisha stitched a crucial 46-run partnership for the third wicket to help India win the contest by seven wickets.
No wonder the phenomenal victory led to Indian players celebrating their hearts out. After the game, quite a few U-19 players were spotted dancing to the famous Bollywood number ‘Kala Chashma’ to rejoice in their success.
