Chennai Super Kings fast bowler Deepak Chahar, who was out of action after sustaining two big injuries, has shared an update about his fitness and return to the cricket arena. Chahar said that he’s fully fit and preparing for the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.

Notably, Chahar had a tough time last year and featured only in 15 games for India. The 30-year-old pacer was also ruled out of the T20 world cup due to an injury.

The last international match Chahar played was an ODI against Bangladesh, where he broke down after bowling just three overs. Since then, the right-arm pacer has been undergoing extensive rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. However, he’s now fully fit and was seen in action for Rajasthan in a Ranji Trophy match last month.

In the domestic fixture against Services, Chahar bowled 20-plus overs and is now preparing to play for CSK in the upcoming IPL season. While talking to PTI, he shed light on his fitness and also expressed his excitement for the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) as well.

“I have been working hard for the past two three months on my fitness, I am fully fit and preparing well for the IPL,” Chahar told PTI.

“I had two big injures. One was a stress fracture and one was a quad grade 3 tear. They are both very big injuries. You are out for months. Anyone who comes back after the injury it takes time, especially for the fast bowlers,” he added.

Chahar further spoke about the change WPL would bring to women’s cricket and said: “IPL changed men’s cricket forever, people got a lot of opportunities. Same thing will happen with Women’s Premier League. Women’s cricket will grow very fast as they will face international players very early in their careers. It will also help a lot of women cricketers who have not been able to make money and will fuel competition”
