Tamim Iqbal returns as Bangladesh announce squad for England ODIs

Regular skipper Tamim Iqbal has returned to the Bangladesh ODI side for the upcoming home series against England.

Tamim, who missed the ODI series against India in December last year because of a groin injury, featured in the recently-concluded Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Though he skipped most of the BPL matches for the Khulna Tigers to keep himself fit for the England series.

Top-order batter Towhid Hridoy, too, has received a maiden call-up to the squad after a productive BPL 2023 season. Hridoy ammased 403 runs in 13 games at an average of 36.63.

Meanhile, Taijul Islam has been recalled to the set-up as a like-for-like replacement for Nasum Ahmed.

Speaking about the selection decisions, Chief Selector Minhajul Abedin said, as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo:

“Towhid Hridoy has been doing well in the BPL. He was in our pool of potential players, and was part of the HP [High Performance] and Bangladesh A sides.”

“Yasir [Ali] remains in our thinking, as we plan to take another player in the squad. Nasum is being considered for another format, while we dropped Nurul [Hasan] and Shoriful [Islam] due to form.”

The English team will land in Bangladesh on February 24 to play three ODIs and as many T20Is.
