Peshawar Zalmi locked horns with Karachi Kings in match no. 2 of the Pakistan Super League 2023 (PSL) at National Stadium on Tuesday (February 14) and won the contest by a close margin of two runs.
Asked to bat first, Peshawar displayed a brilliant show and put up a massive total of 199/5 on the board. Tom Kohler-Cadmore played a superb 92-run knock for his team and was well supported by his skipper Babar Azam who scored a decent 68 off 46 deliveries. Meanwhile, Andrew Tye and Imran Tahir picked a wicket each for Karachi.
However, there was also a moment in the first innings of the game when things got quite heated between Babar and Mohammad Amir of Karachi. Notably, Babar was previously part of the Karachi-based franchise as captain but switched to Peshawar for the eighth edition of the PSL.
Babar hit Amir for a classic four on the second last ball of the fifth over. The frustration on the left-arm pacer’s face after conceding a boundary was clearly visible. Next, on the final ball of the powerplay, he produced a straighter delivery to Peshawar’s captain, which the latter defended with ease as the white leather went direct into the hands of the bowler.
Soon after collecting the ball, furious Amir threw it back towards Babar. Although the 30-year-old intended to hit the stumps, he missed the target by a long way, and the wicketkeeper gathered the ball.

Chasing 200 for victory, Karachi also got off to a promising start, with skipper Imad Wasim scoring a valiant 80 off 47 balls. Shoaib Malik also played a fiery 52-run knock but failed to get his team across the line as Karachi eventually lost the contest by two runs.
On the other hand, James Neesham and Waham Riaz scalped two wickets each for Peshawar, and Kohler-Cadmore was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his exploits in the game.
