Zimbabwe locked horns with West Indies in the second Test at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo from Sunday (February 12) and won the contest by an innings and four runs.

Opting to bat first, Zimbabwe failed to impress and were bundled out by the visitors for mere 115 runs. Innocent Kaia played a decent knock of 38 runs and was the highest run-scorer for the hosts. Craig Ervine (22) and Donal Tiripano (23) also contributed to the team’s total.

Meanwhile, Gudakesh Motie played a significant role for West Indies in dismantling the Zimbabwe line-up and picked up a seven-wicket haul in the first innings.

In reply, West Indies were cleaned up for 292 in their first essay. Rostan Chase top-scored for the visitors and slammed 70 off 132 deliveries. With a brilliant half-century, Raymon Reifer also helped his team secure a healthy lead of 177.

On the other hand, Victor Nyauchi scalped a fifer for Zimbabwe, with Brandon Mavuta also picking up three wickets.

In their second innings, Zimbabwe failed to diminish the lead and lost the contest by an innings and four runs as they were brushed off for 173. Ervine scored a decent 72 but couldn’t help his team to stay alive in the game.

Meanwhile, Motie once again shined with the ball for West Indies and added six wickets to his tally, guiding his team to a series-clinching victory.

Motie’s match figures of 13/99 were the best by any Windies spinner in the longest format. With his exceptional bowling performance in the second Test, he also became the third bowler for West Indies with the most wickets in a Test match.

Notably, after the first Test ending in a draw, this was a series decider game which West Indies took away from the hosts.
