Resuming their innings on 255/4, Australia went on to dominate Day 2 of the fourth and final Test in Ahmedabad as well. The visitors ended their first innings with a huge score of 480. Usman Khawaja shined for the Aussies as he scored a superb 180 and pushed the Indian team on backfoot. Cameron Green also smashed a brilliant ton and added 114 runs for his team. But soon after his century, Green fell prey to India’s star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
Apart from Khawaja and Green, Australia’s tailenders also made the Indian bowlers toil hard and scored some handy runs at the end. Todd Murphy and Nathan Lyon contributed 41 and 34 runs to the team’s total. Meanwhile, Ashwin bagged six wickets for 91 runs in 47.2 overs that he bowled for the hosts.
After bundling out Australia, India had to bat out ten overs before the stumps, with skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill taking charge. Both the Indian openers added 36 runs and played sensibly without making any mistakes. Amidst the Indian team’s short innings also took place an entertaining moment which made everyone laugh and giggle.
On the second ball of the day’s last over, Shubman hit Lyon for a six over the long-on depositing the red leather into the stand. The ball eventually got lost underneath the white sheets at the sight screen area. After waiting for a while, the umpires finally decided to change it. But a fan decided to search for the ball himself and went beneath the sheets. However, he failed on the first attempt.
Just when the umpires finalized the replacement for the lost sphere, the determined fan emerged with the ball in his hands and waved towards the players in excitement. At last, he threw it onto the ground but eventually fell down in the process. Seeing the comical event, everyone present at the stadium, including the on-air commentators, burst into laughter. Gill also couldn’t control himself and was spotted having a giggle.
