UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak showcased his love for cricket when he met with the England team that won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in November 2022. In a video posted on Twitter by a senior videographer to the Prime Minister, Sunak can be seen playing cricket with the team in the garden of his official residence, 10 Downing Street.

Sunak, who is of Indian origin, rolled up the sleeves of his formal shirt and faced a few deliveries from Sam Curran and Chris Jordan while also trying his hand at bowling.

During the game, Curran bowled a spin delivery to Sunak, which he missed, and Jordan bowled a delivery that was edged by Sunak and caught in the slips, prompting cheers from everyone present. The Prime Minister appeared to enjoy the game, showcasing his enthusiasm for the sport and his ability to take part in a friendly game with the England team.

England’s limited-overs captain Jos Buttler also shared photos from the team’s visit to 10 Downing Street on Twitter. Holding the T20 World Cup trophy, he posed alongside his teammates on the famous front porch of the residence. Apart from Curran and Jordan, the other players present were Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Phil Salt, Chris Woakes, Richard Gleeson and Tymal Mills.

England secured their second ICC T20 World Cup victory by beating Pakistan by five wickets last year. They became the first team to hold the ODI World Cup and T20 World Cup titles at the same time. The team’s visit to 10 Downing Street was a celebration of their victory, and Sunak’s participation in the game added to the festive mood of the day.
