Amelia Kerr on her experience of playing in WPL

New Zealand’s star all-rounder Amelia Kerr is enjoying her stint for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL). The Black Caps star rose to fame after smashing an unbeaten 232 off 145 balls against Ireland. She thus became the youngest batter, male or female, to hit a double hundred in international cricket.

So far, Kerr has been super impressive in WPL and played her part in helping MI reach the playoffs with three games left to be played. She has picked up eight wickets apart from making a contribution with the bat.

In a recent chat, Kerr opened up on the experience she is having of playing in the WPL and shared how she always wanted to play in WPL, having seen the Indian Premier League (IPL) while growing up in New Zealand.

“It is awesome. Growing up watching the men’s IPL, I remember saying one day I want to play there,” Kerr said, as quoted by The Hindu.

Kerr also heaped praises on her skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, rating the Indian star as an amazing and great leader. The New Zealander revealed that when Harman walks into the dressing room, all the young girls idolise her and look up to the Indian cricket team captain.

“It’s nice to have the opportunity to play alongside her. She is amazing. She has destroyed a lot of teams with her batting, and she has gone out there and done the same in the tournament. She is a great leader. You can tell when she walks in the changing room, all the young girls idolise her. She has got a very calm way and builds confidence in your game. She is open to different suggestions and has led from the front. She gives you the confidence that you can achieve anything,” she added.

After confirming their spot in the playoffs, Mumbai will be keen to cement their place in the top spot to go directly into the final. MI will next face UP Warriorz on Saturday at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai.
