The inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) has just begun, and the tournament has already started offering some classic clashes with sensational fielding, batting and bowling performances. Recently, a glimpse of exceptional fielding was showcased in the event by Radha Yadav when Delhi Capitals (DC) locked horns with UP Warriorz (UPW) in match no. 5 of the WPL 2023.
Asked to bat first, DC put up a mammoth score of 211 for the loss of four wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Meg Lanning played a captain’s knock of 70 off 42 balls for her team, while Jess Jonassen also added valuable 42 runs off 20 deliveries to the team’s total. Meanwhile, Shabnim Ismail and Sophie Ecclestone picked up a wicket each for UPW.
In reply, UPW failed to chase down the set target and managed to score only 169/5 in their 20 overs. Tahila McGrath scored a brilliant 90 off 50 balls for her team but unfortunately couldn’t sail her team through, and UPW eventually lost the contest by 42 runs.
Jonassen was the pick of the bowlers for DC as she scalped three wickets, with Marizanne Kapp and Shikha Pandey also striking a dismissal each.
Apart from DC’s batters and bowlers, Radha put up a brilliant fielding show and took three catches for her team. One of those three catches was of Deepti Sharma and was termed the ‘Catch of the Tournament’ by many on social media.
On the first ball of the 11th over, Radha pulled off a stunner as she charged from the long on and dived forward to catch the mishit from Deepti on Shikha Pandey’s delivery. Soon after completing the catch, Radha was seen pumped up and celebrating the dismissal with Shikha. In the meantime, the commentators were also heard lauding Radha’s effort.
