The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is determined to ensure the success of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). The first edition of the WPL, featuring five teams, is all set to commence on March 4 at the DY Patil Stadium, with an opening match between Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians. The BCCI has left no stone unturned in its preparations for the tournament, with a focus on creating an engaging and exciting experience for fans.
The WPL 2023 will kick off with an extravagant opening ceremony at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. Bollywood actresses Kriti Sanon and Kiara Advani are set to dazzle fans with their performances during the event. The organizers have also confirmed that renowned singer AP Dhillon will perform at the grand ceremony. This star-studded event will set the tone for what promises to be an exciting and memorable tournament.
According to media reports, renowned signer and music composer Shankar Mahadevan will sing the WPL anthem before the dancing and singing performances.

The inaugural edition of the WPL will feature a total of 20 league matches and two playoff games. These matches will be played over a period of 23 days, with the final scheduled to take place on March 26 at the Brabourne Stadium.
There are five teams taking part in WPL 2023 including Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Delhi Capitals, UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants.
India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana was the costliest buy at the 2023 WPL Auction. She was roped in by RCB for INR 3.4 during the bidding event and recently appointed skipper by the Bangalore-based franchise.
