Gujarat Giants (GG) locked horns with Mumbai Indians (MI) in match no. 12 of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday (March 14).
Asked to bat first, MI lost their first wicket with just one run on the board. However, they made a strong comeback and posted a competitive total of 162 for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Harmanpreet Kaur top-scored for her team and scored a brilliant 51 off 30 balls, including seven fours and two sixes. Supported by Nat Sciver-Brunt (36), Yastika Bhatia also contributed 44 crucial runs to the MI’s total. Meanwhile, Ashleigh Gardner picked up three wickets for GG and gave away just 34 runs in her quota of four overs.
In reply, Gujarat also didn’t start well and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Harleen Deol played a resilient 22-run knock for her team but couldn’t sail them through. GG eventually lost the contest by 55 runs as they managed to score only 109/9 in 20 overs.
On the other hand, Scier-Brunt and Hayley Matthews scalped three wickets each for the MI and helped the Mumbai-based team maintain their dominance by registering a fifth consecutive win in the tournament. Harmanpreet was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for her exceptional half-century knock.
With the win, Mumbai maintained their top spot in the WPL 2023 points table and became the first team to qualify for the playoffs, while Gujarat remained at the fifth position in the team standings with just one win in their last five encounters.

Mumbai Indians should be declared winner even before WPL starts or a team should be brought in WPL which can compete with MI
Because playing against all these teams is the lowest point of a team like MI especially with RCB#WPL2023 | #MIvGG pic.twitter.com/M51Y7YxKjv
