Delhi Capitals (DC) squared off with Mumbai Indians (MI) in match no. 18 of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai on Monday (March 20) and emerged victorious in the contest by nine wickets.
Asked to bat first, MI started off very slow and managed to score just 109 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Pooja Vastrakar and Harmanpreet Kaur were the top scorers for the Mumbai-based team, with 26 and 23 runs, respectively. Meanwhile, Marizanne Kapp and Shikha Pandey took two wickets each for Delhi. The two dismissals Shikha struck included the wicket of dangerous Hayley Matthews, whom Jemimah Rodrigues caught inside the third-yard circle in a brilliant effort.
On the third ball of the 4th over, Shika delivered a fuller delivery onto the pads of Matthews, which the latter tried to smack over mid-on but fell prey to Jemimah’s magnificent effort. Diving towards her right, the Mumbai cricketer judged the timing of the ball perfectly and pulled off a stunner to send Matthews back to the pavilion.
Jemimah was thrilled after completing the catch and celebrated the dismissal by kissing the ball.
