The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released the schedule for the playoffs and final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. The matches will be held in Chennai and Ahmedabad from May 23 to May.
The first qualifier match will be played on May 23 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, while the eliminator will take place on May 24th. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the second qualifier and the summit clash on May 26 and 28, respectively.
The teams finishing at the top of the points table will compete in Qualifier 1, while the teams ranked third and fourth will face off in the Eliminator.
The winner of the Eliminator and the loser of Qualifier 1 will battle it out in Qualifier 2. Ahmedabad hosted the Qualifier 2 and the final last year, where Gujarat Titans (GT) won the tournament in their inaugural season. This year, Chennai’s Chepauk will host the IPL playoffs for the first time since 2019.
The 16th edition of the IPL began on April 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the world’s largest cricket stadium. In 2022, the league was played across four venues in Mumbai and Pune, with the playoffs and the final held in Kolkata and Ahmedabad.
The 2023 edition has reverted to the usual home and away format, with 70 games and four playoff matches. The ten teams were divided into two groups, with each team playing seven home and away games during the regular season. Teams in the same group played each other once, while facing a team from the other group twice.
Mumbai Indians (MI) have won the IPL title five times, while Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have won it four times. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have won the competition twice, with the Rajasthan Royals (RR), Sunrisers Hyderabad (STH) and GT winning it once each. As the tournament approaches, cricket fans will be eagerly waiting to see which team will emerge as the winner this year.
