MS Dhoni is a well-known name in cricket circles for his cool and composed demeanour on the field. He made headlines once again on Friday after inflicting a brilliant run out to dismiss Washington Sundar during the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) clash at the MA Chidambaram stadium. Notably, Dhoni’s razor-sharp throw came on the last ball of the first innings.
Winning the toss and electing to bowl first, CSK restricted SRH to an average total of 134/7 in the allotted 20 overs. The Aiden Markram-led side never looked comfortable in their innings and eventually ended up putting a sub-par total on the scoreboard. The only batter to have looked good for SRH in the contest was Abhishek Sharma, who scored crucial 34 runs for his team. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja picked up three wickets for Chennai. However, CSK skipper Dhoni also played a significant role for CSK in the first innings by taking a catch, striking a stumping and inflicting a brilliant run out.
The run-out from Dhoni came on the final delivery of SRH’s inning when Matheesha Pathirana delivered a slower-length down the leg side ball to Marco Jansen, which the latter attempted to hit for a boundary by swinging his bat hard but failed to make any connection with the ball. Dhoni standing behind the stumps anticipated that Sundar on the other end might attempt to go for a quick bye, so he had already taken his right glove off, and as soon as the ball went to him, he aimed at the three poles and broke them with a bullet throw.

After the dismissal, Dhoni remained unaffected and didn’t celebrate. He instead was seen quietly rearranging the stumps. The act by Dhoni attracted a lot of attention on social media, and the fans hailed him for his composure as well as his focus on the game.
As far as the result of the match is concerned, CSK chased the set target in 18.4 overs with seven wickets in hand. Devon Conway played a match-winning knock of 77 runs for his team in the run chase. On the other hand, Jadeja was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his exceptional bowling performance.
