India’s star opener Shubman Gill had a great start to the year 2023 and has been rewarded for his sensational outing in the One Day Internationals (ODI). Gill secured a career-best fourth position in the latest ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings with 738 points. The 23-year-old cricketer is now just 2 points behind Pakistan’s Imam-ul-Haq, who is placed at the third spot with 739 points.

Although Gill didn’t have a good time in the recently concluded ODI series against Australia and managed to score just 57 runs in three matches, he replaced South Africa’s Quinton de Kock, who slipped from the fourth spot to seventh in the batter’s category. On the other hand, Virat Kohli moved to the sixth position in the new rankings. Notably, the former India captain has scored 427 runs, including two centuries in the 50-over format this year. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma retained his eighth spot in the batter’s list.

Apart from Gill, South Africa’s Aiden Markram showed major gain and jumped thirteen places to 41st in the newly announced rankings. Markram was rewarded for his brilliant 175 against the Netherlands in the third ODI. The 28-year-old Proteas cricketer moved to the 32nd position in the all-rounder’s category as well.

The Netherlands batters also showed progress as Max O’Dowd and Vikramjit Singh rose to the 75th and 78th spots, respectively. In the meantime, Babar Azam and Rassie van der Dussen maintained their first and second spot among batters with 887 and 777 points.

Talking about the bowler’s standings, Australia’s Pat Cummins kept his numero-uno position, and India’s Mohammed Siraj retained his third spot. However, the No. 2 ranked New Zealand’s Trent Boult has closed the gap with Cummins. While Matt Henry was the major gainer for the Blackcaps in the bowling charts reaching fifth from tenth position, South Africa’s Sisanda Magala took a 35-place leap to his personal best number 165th in the rankings.
