Delhi Capitals (DC) have made an announcement regarding the young pacer Kamlesh Nagarkoti. The player has been ruled out of the remaining IPL 2023 due to a back injury. This injury kept him out from playing even a single match this season.
Now, the BCCI has released a statement stating that Priyam Garg, a batter from Uttar Pradesh, will be replacing Nagarkoti. He has been signed for his base price of INR 20 lakh. Garg was previously picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2020 and has played in 21 IPL games across three seasons.
Nagarkoti was signed by the Delhi-based franchise in the IPL 2022 mega auction for INR 1.1 crore. This was after Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) released him. However, Nagarkoti’s performance has not been impressive, with him only claiming five wickets in the 12 IPL matches he has played so far.
Meanwhile, Garg was travelling with the DC squad for the past few days. He was also training with the team ahead of their recent clash against SRH. This suggests that he was already being considered as a potential replacement for Nagarkoti.
Garg is a talented batter who represents Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket. He had also captained India to a runners-up finish in the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa. In the IPL, Garg has scored 251 runs at a strike-rate of 115.14. He is expected to bring a new dimension to the Delhi batting lineup.
