The reason for the black armbands was to mourn the loss of former Indian cricketer Salim Durani, who passed away on the same morning at the age of 88. The IPL Governing Body confirmed that the armbands were worn as a mark of respect for the former cricketer, who played for India from 1960 to 1973.
Durani was known for his explosive batting and left-arm spin bowling. He was the only Indian representative who was born in Afghanistan and is widely regarded as one of the hard hitters of his time.
