India’s young opening batter Shubman Gill is in the form of his life across formats and has garnered many praises from former cricketers for his brilliant strokeplay ability. The right-handed batter is currently representing Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, where he has scored 228 runs in six matches, including two fifties. His best score of 67 in the ongoing tournament came against Punjab Kings (PBKS).
In a Q&A interaction on Jio cinema, Gill recently shared his dream of opening alongside one of the greatest Indian cricketers. During the discussion, the 23-year-old also spoke about his best IPL performance and described Hardik Pandya‘s captaincy in one word.
Gill named legendary Sachin Tendulkar as his dream opening partner and further went on to term Hardik’s captaincy as “electric”. Meanwhile, he mentioned his 96 off 59 balls against the PBKS in 2022 as favourite IPL innings.
When asked about his favourite moment in the league, Shubman chose GT’s last year’s maiden IPL triumph as the best memory. Notably, Hardik led GT to their first IPL title in 2022, where Gujarat won ten out of 14 league stage matches and later emerged victorious in the qualifiers and final of the tournament. As far as Gill’s IPL career is concerned, he has scored 2128 runs in 80 matches so far with an average of 32.74 and a strike rate of 126.52, including 16 fifties.
It is also noteworthy that GT are performing well in the ongoing tournament and sit at fourth place on the points table with four wins in six matches. They won their recent match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by seven runs courtesy of an impressive spell from Mohit Sharma. The two losses for the Ahmedabad-based franchise came against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR).
The defending champions will face Mumbai Indians (MI) in their next game at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday (April 25).
