IPL 2023: Sunil Gavaskar issues a noteworthy statement after MS Dhoni’s unsuccessful DRS against RR

MS Dhoni, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, is well-known for his accurate reviews in the Decision Review System (DRS). This has earned him the nickname ‘Dhoni Review System’ among fans. However, during a recent match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Jaipur, Dhoni’s review turned out to be unsuccessful.

In the fourth over of RR’s innings, bowler Maheesh Theekshana’s delivery hit Yashasvi Jaiswal’s pads, but the umpire did not signal it out. Dhoni, who seemed convinced that the decision was wrong, opted for a review. This was an expected move, given his track record of successful reviews in the past. In an unusual turn of events, Dhoni’s review failed as the ball was found to have pitched outside the leg stump. This meant that the review was wasted by CSK, much to the disappointment of their fans.

Adding insult to injury, Sunil Gavaskar, a legendary cricketer and commentator, made a noteworthy statement during the match. He said, “For once, Dhoni got it wrong,” highlighting the rarity of the occasion where the CSK captain failed to overturn the umpire’s decision using the DRS.

Coming to the result match, RR defeated CSK by 32 runs in the reverse fixture between the two sides. Riding on Jaiswal’s 43-ball 77, RR posted a mammoth total of 202-5 after electing to bat first.

Chasing 203 for victory, CSK never looked in the fray as they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and were restricted to 170 for six in 20 overs. For RR, leg-spinner Adam Zampa picked up three wickets giving away just 22 runs in his quota of four overs.
