Arshdeep Singh, known for his death overs expertise, played a vital role in Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) win over Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium. He successfully defended 16 runs in the final over, meeting the expectations of his captain, Sam Curran. The match was a high-scoring thriller, and Arshdeep was given the toughest job of containing the MI’s run flow in the death overs. Despite the pressure, he delivered an outstanding performance, which led to PBKS’ victory.
In the final over, Tim David took a single on the first ball, which forced Tilak Varma to hit a boundary on the second ball, but he failed to connect with the short ball. Arshdeep produced a yorker on the third ball, which broke Tilak’s middle stump, crushing MI’s hopes. He repeated the same on the next ball, dismissing Nehal Wadhera as the middle stump was broken once again. Although Jofra Archer managed to survive the hat-trick delivery, the home team’s chances of winning were ruined, and PBKS won the game by 13 runs. Arshdeep conceded just one run off the final ball.
Arshdeep’s impressive figures of 4-0-29-4 included the crucial wickets of Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan, which helped Punjab to outclass Mumbai. He dismissed Ishan Kishan on his first legal delivery, with a catch by Matthew Short near the boundary rope. Suryakumar’s 57-run knock was a good sign for MI, but Arshdeep’s crucial wickets and economical bowling in the death overs proved to be the turning point of the match.

Earlier, PBKS were struggling at 83/4 in the first ten overs after put in to bat. However, captain Curran (55 off 29) and Harpreet Singh (41 off 28) added 92 runs for the fifth wicket in quick time, propelling their side to 214/8 in 20 overs. This proved to be too much for MI to chase down in the end.
What is the cost of LED stumps?
After Arshdeep completed his exceptional last over, the cost of the LED stumps that he broke twice quickly became viral on social media. Several reports suggested that a set of LED stumps costs around $40,000, which is equivalent to 32.81 lakh rupees. Given that Arshdeep broke the middle stump twice in just two balls, the BCCI must have had to spend a considerable amount of money to at least replace the middle stump.
