Mumbai Indians’ spinner Hrithik Shokeen and Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) skipper Nitish Rana indulged in a heated argument at the Wankhede Stadium during the 22nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on Sunday (April 16). The exchange of words took place after Hrithik dismissed Rana and said something to the latter while he was on his way back to the pavilion.
Hrithik trapped Rana in the ninth over of the KKR innings when the batter went down the track and tried to hit him for a boundary but miscued it completely. Following the dismissal, Rana started walking back to the dugout in disappointment but was teased by Hrithik as the spinner was spotted passing some remark on him.
In response, the left-handed batter, who was already upset with his dismissal, turned around and charged towards the MI spinner in a furious manner. However, Mumbai’s stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav was quick enough to intervene and pull Rana away.

Talking about the match, Winning the toss and electing to bowl first, MI restricted KKR to 185/6 in the allotted 20 overs. Venkatesh Iyer slammed a brilliant century for the Kolkata-based team and played a significant role for them in posting a competitive total on the board. Andre Russell also contributed quickfire 21 runs to the KKR total.
On the other hand, Hrithik was the pick of the bowlers for MI as he picked up two wickets for his side. While the first wicket for the 22-year-old cricketer came in the form of Rana, he later went on to dismiss Shardul Thakur as well.
Apart from the argument between Hrithik and Rana, the match saw Arjun Tendulkar make his IPL debut for MI. Although, Rohit Sharma was not part of the starting eleven due to a stomach bug, he was included in the second innings as an Impact Player.
