Sri Lanka clinched the two-match Test series against Ireland by whitewashing the visitors (2-0). Notably, Sri Lanka defeated Ireland by an innings and 280 runs in the first match. Meanwhile, the second Test between the two sides also ended in favour of the hosts, with Sri Lanka emerging victorious by ten runs and an innings on Friday (April 28).

Although Paul Stirling (103) and Curtis Campher (111) scored brilliant centuries for Ireland in the first innings and powered their team to a mammoth total of 492 runs, the touring party couldn’t restrict Sri Lanka from securing a 212-run lead.

Nishan Madushka (205) and Kusal Mendis (245) hammered brilliant double tons for the hosts as Sri Lanka declared their innings on 704 for the loss of three wickets.

On the other hand, Ireland were bowled out for 202 runs in the third inning and eventually lost the contest by ten runs and an innings. Prabath Jayasuriya shined with the ball for Sri Lanka and played a significant role in their series-clinching victory, bagging a seven-wicket match-haul in the contest.

While Prabath was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his sensational bowling performance, Kusal Mendis was declared ‘Player of the Series’.
