In a high-scoring encounter at Eden Gardens, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 23 runs in the 19th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.

The Knight Riders won the toss and opted to bowl first, but Sunrisers Hyderabad set a mammoth total of 228/4 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to an exceptional century from Harry Brook (100 off 55 balls) and a blistering fifty from skipper Aiden Markram (50 off 26 balls).

Chasing a daunting target, Kolkata Knight Riders started poorly, losing opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz for a duck in the first over. Although Narayan Jagadeesan (36 off 21 balls) and Nitish Rana (75 off 41 balls) tried to keep the chase alive with some brilliant hitting, the required run-rate kept soaring, and the Kolkata side eventually fell short by 23 runs.

For Sunrisers Hyderabad, Marco Jansen (2/37) and Mayank Markande (2/27) picked up two wickets each, while Umran Malik, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and T Natarajan claimed one wicket apiece. Andre Russell (3/22) was the standout bowler for Kolkata Knight Riders, but his effort went in vain as Sunrisers Hyderabad sealed an emphatic victory.
