In a high-scoring encounter in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Punjab Kings (PK) by 56 runs at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Friday.

Put in to bat, the Super Giants made full use of the batting-friendly conditions with opener Kyle Mayers setting the tone for LSG courtsey of a blazing knock of 54 runs knock off just 24 balls, which included seven fours and four sixes.

Ayush Badoni (43 off 24) and Nicholas Pooran (45 off 19) played their parts in the middle overs, but it was Marcus Stoinis who stole the show with a breathtaking innings of 72 off 40 balls, which featured six fours and five sixes. LSG finished their innings at an imposing total of 257/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, Punjab started off disastrously, losing their opener Shikhar Dhawan for just one run. Atharva Taide (66 off 36) and Sikandar Raza (36 off 22) kept the hosts in the hunt with their aggressive stroke-play.

However, wickets kept falling at regular intervals, and no other batters could contribute significantly. Yash Thakur (4/37) and Naveen-ul-Haq (3/30) were the pick of the bowlers for LSG, as they bowled out PK for 201 runs in 19.5 overs, winning the match by 56 runs.
