In a comedy of errors and what could be a possible injury, Rajasthan Royals (RR) picked up the wicket of Gujarat Titans (GT) opening batter Wriddhiman Saha in the Sunday evening clash at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
It all happened on the third ball of the opening over of GT’s innings bowled by Trent Boult when a high catch opportunity created a ruckus amongst Rajasthan fielders. Boult went for a length delivery, swinging in on middle and leg, and Saha was early to close his bat-face, resulting in a leading edge that went a mile up in the air.
Three fielders – point (Dhruv Jurel), keeper (Sanju Samson) and mid-wicket (Shimron Hetmyer) – all rushed towards the ball, despite the keeper’s call. However, a collision occurred between two of the fielders, causing Samson to miss the catch. Fortunately, Boult, who had been observing the scene, quickly spotted the ball and made a swift move to catch it off his own bowling.

David Miller and Shubman Gill helped GT reach a total of 177 for 7 in 20 overs. Gill’s 45 off 34 provided a strong start, while Miller’s 46 off 30 gave a late boost. Abhinav Manohar also contributed a quickfire 27. Sandeep Sharma was the standout bowler with figures of 2 for 25.
“There’s a lot of dew, it was tough to hold and grip the ball towards the end as the ball was wet. Last time, I won the purple cap, I am focussing on the trophy this year. Zampa bowled well in the last game and he had a good match-up against Miller. This a very good batting wicket and dew is also a plus point for us,” said RR spinner Yuzvendra Chahal after the innings break.
