South African cricketer Faf du Plessis, the skipper of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), recently made a hilarious blunder while attempting to say the iconic phrase “Ee Sala Cup Namde” during a promotional event for the team. The phrase, which is in Kannada, translates to “This time, the cup is ours” in English.
RCB is one of the most popular teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has a massive fan following not only in Bengaluru but across the country. Despite being a fan favourite, the team has never won the IPL title and is among the three sides that have featured in all editions but failed to lift the trophy.
During the promotional event, Faf was asked to recite the famous phrase but made a hilarious mistake by saying “Ee Sala Cup Nahi” instead, which translates to “This time, there’s no cup.”
The video of the incident went viral on social media, with fellow RCB teammate and former captain Virat Kohli’s reaction capturing attention. Kohli, who was sitting next to Faf, couldn’t stop laughing throughout the incident.

In 2022, Faf took over the captaincy of RCB from Kohli, who stepped down from the role after IPL 2021. Kohli led the Bangalore-based team for eight years and led them to the final in 2016. Faf was signed up by RCB for INR 7 crore at the 2022 IPL Auction.
Faf was part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) squad that won the IPL title in 2021. He formed a remarkable opening partnership with Ruturaj Gaikwad and ended the tournament as the second-highest run-scorer. Additionally, Faf played a crucial role in CSK’s victory in 2018, producing a memorable knock in Qualifier 1.
On the other hand, Kohli is the only player in IPL history to have represented the same team, RCB, in all 15 seasons. He also holds the record for the highest number of runs scored in the IPL, amassing 6624 runs.
