Australia and Delhi Capitals all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has made an astonishing prediction for their upcoming clash with India in the 2023 World Cup. Marsh, hailing from Western Australia, believes that the Men in Blue will suffer a significant defeat as Australia puts up a massive score of 450-2 while batting first.

Having played a crucial role in Australia’s success in the ODI series victory back in March, the 31-year-old has confidently forecasted a victory for his side, with India being bowled out for a mere 65 runs.

Marsh’s prediction was quoted during a podcast for the Delhi-based IPL franchise, where he stated, “Australia will stay undefeated, defeating India in the final. Australia 450/2 in the final, India all out 65.”

It is worth noting that Australia has previously emerged victorious over India in the World Cup final held in 2003. The match took place at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, where Ricky Ponting’s exceptional innings led to a crushing defeat for the Men in Blue.

Opting to bat first, Australia amassed an impressive total of 359 runs for the loss of two wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Ponting showcased an outstanding performance, scoring 140 runs off 121 balls with the support of four boundaries and eight sixes. Damien Martyn provided valuable assistance by contributing 88 runs off 84 balls. The partnership between Ponting and Martyn reached a remarkable 234 runs for the third wicket, spanning 30.1 overs.

In response, Australia’s bowlers successfully dismissed the Indian team for 234 runs in 39.2 overs. Virender Sehwag emerged as the standout performer in India’s batting lineup, scoring 82 runs off 81 balls, including 10 fours and three sixes. Rahul Dravid also made a notable contribution with 47 runs off 57 balls.

Fast bowler Glenn McGrath claimed three wickets for Australia in the summit clash.
