The much-anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 final between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT) on Sunday (May 28) was intervened by heavy rain in Ahmedabad and has been rescheduled on the Reserve Day, i.e. May 29. The summit clash didn’t even see the toss take place due to continuous rainfall, and it turned out to be a big heartbreak for the fans. However, despite the bad weather, the spectators present at the venue didn’t lose hope and waited for a brief time until the official confirmation of the postponement of the match was issued.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expressed gratitude to the fans for their patience and support. The BCCI also urged them to turn up in large numbers to cheer for their favourite IPL team on the reserve day and keep their tickets safe.
The former Australian cricketer and a member of the IPL broadcasting team, Matthew Hayden, acknowledged the efforts of fans as well. Hayden shared a video on his Instagram story, showcasing the dedicated fans braving the rain at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Notably, the fans in the clip posted by the veteran Aussie opener were seen walking through a waterlogged street.
“Love you guys #bestfans. See you tomorrow GT vs CSK IPL2023 Finals.” Hayden captioned his story.

It is worth mentioning that if in case the reserve day of the IPL 2023 final is also washed out, then the Hardik Pandya-led GT will be crowned the champions of the event as they finished the league stage of the tournament on the no. 1 position. Meanwhile, MS Dhoni and Co. will be declared runner-ups due to finishing the group stage on the second spot of the points table.
Considering the scenario, CSK will hope that the rain doesn’t intervene in the match on Monday, as they have had a great IPL 2023 season so far and aim to lift their fifth title. Although the Chennai-based side lost to GT in both the league stage fixtures, they edged past the Ahmedabad-based franchise in Qualifier 1 of the event and became the first team to sail into the summit clash.
