RR were the first team to reach the IPL finals. They also went on to lift the trophy by defeating CSK.

Deccan Chargers sailed to the finals before any other team and clinched the title as well.
- 2010 – Mumbai Indians
Despite being the first finalist of IPL 2010, MI lost the summit clash to CSK.
- 2011 – Chennai Super Kings
CSK were not just the first side to reach the finals, but they also lifted the trophy in the 2011 edition of IPL.
- 2012 – Kolkata Knight Riders
KKR booked the spot in the ultimate battle before any other team and defeated CSK to clinch the title.
- 2013 – Chennai Super Kings
Although CSK were the first team to sail into the finals in 2013, they lost to MI in the summit clash.
- 2014 – Kolkata Knight Riders
After booking their final spot in 2012, KKR went on to beat Kings XI Punjab to lift the trophy.
- 2015 – Mumbai Indians
MI were the first to sail into the finals of IPL 2015. They also turned out to be the eventual champions of the season.
- 2016 – Royal Challengers Bangalore
RCB dominated the 2016 IPL edition and reached the summit clash before any other team.
- 2017 – Rising Pune Supergiants
Steve Smith-led RPS were the first finalists of IPL 2017. However, they lost the ultimate battle to MI.
- 2018 – Chennai Super Kings
CSK not just reached the finals before any other teams in 2018, but they also lifted the title.
- 2019 – Mumbai Indians
MI were the first side to sail into the ultimate championship battle of the 2019 IPL edition.
- 2020 – Mumbai Indians
MI once again booked their final spot before any other team in 2020 for the second consecutive time.
- 2021 – Chennai Super Kings
CSK were the first team to make it to the IPL finals in 2021.
- 2022 – Gujarat Titans
Debuting in IPL, GT booked their final spot before any other team in 2022 and also went on to lift the trophy.
- 2023 – Chennai Super Kings
CSK are the first team to seal the final spot in IPL 2023. Notably, they will be appearing in the summit clash of the league for the record tenth time.
