Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the leader of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), has opened up regarding his future in the super-exciting Indian Premier League (IPL). Even after retiring from international cricket four years ago, Dhoni remains the cash-rich league’s most popular player, and his presence consistently garners significant support for Chennai, both at home and away matches.
In Qualifier 1, which took place at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Dhoni-led CSK got the better of defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) and registered a 15-run victory to enter the final of IPL 2023. It became the 10th occasion when CSK marched into the final of the world’s toughest T20 tournament.
Following the match, Harsha Bhogle sought Dhoni’s perspective on his future plans with the Chennai-based franchise. Bhogle inquired whether MSD would make a comeback to Chepauk and continue playing for CSK. Initially, Dhoni tried to brush off the question, but Bhogle persisted, prompting the Ranchi-born superstar to say he had sufficient time to ponder and decide. However, Dhoni assured that he would be available for the Yellow Army, emphasizing his unwavering commitment towards the team.
“I don’t know, I have eight to nine months to decide, the small auction may be around December, so why take that headache right now? I have ample time to decide. I will always be there for CSK, whether that is in the playing form or sitting somewhere outside … I don’t really know,” said Dhoni in the post-match presentation.
Dhoni acknowledges that this lifestyle has significant physical and mental demands and expressed the toll that the schedule of being away from home for an extended period has taken on him.
“Frankly, it takes a heavy toll. I have been out of home for literally four months … It takes a lot, but I have ample time to decide,” added Dhoni.
