Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul will miss the remainder of IPL 2023 and the World Test Championship final against Australia next month. He sustained a thigh injury while fielding in the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on May 1.
“Absolutely gutted,” Rahul wrote in his Instagram post on Friday morning as he confirmed of him being out of action for the next few months.
“My focus will be on my rehabilitation and recovery in the coming weeks,” added Rahul. “It’s a tough call to make, but I know it’s the right one to ensure a full recovery.”
Meanwhile, LSG have signed Karun Nair as a replacement for Rahul. Having played for various teams such as Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals and RCB, Nair has amassed 1496 runs in 76 IPL games, indicating his expertise in the tournament. Additionally, Nair and Rahul have been teammates for a considerable time in the Karnataka side of India’s domestic circuit.
With five victories in ten matches, LSG presently holds the second spot on the IPL 2023 points table. Krunal Pandya will now lead the team on an interim basis as they aim for a second consecutive playoff appearance. Krunal has already captained the team once, against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), although the match was called off due to rain.
