Kedar Jadhav, a seasoned Indian all-rounder with a reputation for playing crucial innings in the middle order and delivering useful off-spin, has been roped in by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to replace David Willey.
Willey has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2023 due to an injury.
“Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Monday named Kedar Jadhav as a replacement for David Willey for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Willey, the England all-rounder, played four matches for RCB this season and scalped three wickets. Jadhav, who made his IPL debut in 2010, has so far played 93 IPL games and has 1196 runs against his name. The right-handed batter, who has previously represented RCB in 17 matches, was brought on board for INR 1 Crore,” IPL’s statement read.
Most recently, Jadhav was part of the Marathi-language commentary team for the ongoing IPL. He went unsold at the latest players’ auction. His many teams at the IPL, since his debut in 2010, include RCB, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC), Kochi Tuskers Kerala (now defunct) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Jadhav played 17 matches for RCB in 2016 and 2017 after being traded from Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils).
In total, Jadhav has participated in 93 IPL matches, accumulating 1196 runs at a strike rate of 123.17. Although he has never bowled in the IPL, he has taken 27 ODI wickets (out of 73 appearances for India in the format) and four in T20Is as a part-time off-spinner with a unique, low and slingy action. Furthermore, he has occasionally served as a wicketkeeper and fulfilled this role during his previous tenure with RCB.
