Gautam Gambhir, the former India cricketer and current mentor of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), is encountering a challenging phase in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. This predicament arose following his verbal altercation with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Virat Kohli during the 43rd match of the ongoing tournament. Gambhir’s confrontation with the former RCB captain has not been well-received by Kohli’s fans.

Wherever LSG has traveled, Gambhir has become the target of fans’ ire. This continued during their recent group stage encounter against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens on Saturday (May 20). As Gambhir made his way to the dressing room, the crowd taunted him with chants of ‘Kohli-Kohli’ Surprisingly, instead of getting upset, Gambhir responded with a smile towards the fans who were capturing the incident on mobile phones and video cameras.

The video clip capturing this incident quickly went viral on the internet, generating mixed reactions from fans. Some found Gambhir’s response as commendable, while others opined the behaviour deplorable, supporting the Kolkata crowd’s actions.

In their previous away match against Sunrises Hyderabad (SRH), LSG also had to face a similar incident. The team was subjected to ‘Kohli’ chants, and a few disruptive elements even threw nuts and bolts towards the LSG dugout, causing a temporary halt in the match. The umpires swiftly intervened to control the situation and ensured the safety of the players and officials.
