Young Indian batting sensation, Shubman Gill is having the form of his life. The year 2023 has yet to reach its halfway mark, but the 23-year-old batter from Punjab has already struck a hundred in all formats for team India. But the fire in his stomach for scoring big runs match after the match hasn’t subsided yet.
Gill, who represents Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has hammered 851 runs in 16 matches of IPL 2023 so far. In the last four matches, Gill has scored three centuries, with the latest one coming against five-time IPL trophy holders, Mumbai Indians (MI), in Qualifier 2 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on Friday ( May 26).
In the second Qualifier, Gill made a cautious start against the MI bowlers, as there was a little moisture for the new ball bowlers. But when his eyes got set, Gill made sure no MI bowler were left unpunished by the might of his bat. Gill scored all around the park and helped his side, posting a mammoth total of 233 runs on the board for losing three wickets, which in the end, proved to be enough to take the Gujarat-based franchise to the finals.
While the dashing opener of team India smashed all Titans bowlers around the park, Gill chose the over of Akash Madhwal to showcase the might he possessed in his arms. Madhwal was the same bowler who destroyed the strong battle lineup of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) like a pack of cards in the eliminator match.
In the 12th over of the innings, Shubman smashed the right-arm pacer for three humongous sixes, leaving not only the entire MI dugout in absolute shock but left the commentators present there dumbfounded.
The commentators, Sunil Gavaskar and Ian Bishop, were stunned, to say the least! They were perplexed by how gill was taking on the best bowler of Mumbai with so much ease. Bishop, after one of the sixes in the over, said that the knock from Gill was “magnificence personified.” Gavaskar was also in awe of the innings from Gill, calling it “absolute class.”

Gill has touched the landmark of scoring more than 800 runs in any season of IPL. He becomes the only fourth batter to do in IPL history. He holds the orange cap, too, and chances are sky-high that it will remain with Gill.
Now the current title holders Gujarat will lock horns with the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the coveted trophy on Sunday (May 28).
