Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have announced their replacement for injured pacer Jaydev Unadkat ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 playoffs. The BCCI Technical Committee has approved the inclusion of 20-year-old all-rounder Suryansh Shedge in the LSG squad.
Shedge, who hails from Mumbai, has been signed up for his base price of INR 20 Lakhs and will join the Lucknow-based team ahead of their remaining league goup stage game as they strive to qualify for the playoffs.
Unadkat, who recently made a comeback in the Indian Test setup and also selected for the World Test Championship Final against Australia, has been ruled out of the remaining IPL 2023 due to injury. In the ongoing tournament, he played three matches but failed to take any wickets. The left-arm pacer sustained injury in his shoulder while falling in his follow-through during a practice session at the Ekana Stadium, Lucknow.
On the other hand, Suryansh gained attention seven years ago when he scored a blistering 326 off just 137 deliveries, which stood as the fastest triple century in the Giles Shield, an Under-14 tournament in Mumbai.
He was included in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad for the 2022-23 season but didn’t get a game.
The then 19-year-old Shedge had expressed his surprise at the Ranji Trophy call-up
“This Ranji call was unexpected and that’s why it gives me more happiness. But my dream has always been to earn a Mumbai cap. My main focus was on the U-25 tournament as our goal was to win the championship. I was hurt when we lost to Madhya Pradesh in a close quarter-final [in Indore],” Shedge was quoted as saying to Mid-day.
LSG, currently at third position in the IPL 2023 standings with 15 points, will be facing Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their last league game on May 20 at the Eden Gardens.
